About Us

“Nicole, now that you’re getting a college education, what do you plan on doing with it?” There it is. The dreaded “What are you going to do with your life” question from Dad.
I just completed my freshman year of college and was back home for summer break. I had a job as a food runner at a local restaurant in my hometown, and was more worried about what my friends were up to on the weekends than deciding my life’s path right then and there.
But, even though I was 19 years old, I had an idea. I’ve always had an idea of what I wanted to do, and that idea had one common theme: Boating.
When I was growing up, boats were always in the picture. Whether it was boat rides with my grandparents, or having our traditional after-dinner-swims in the middle of the lake, it was always a crucial part of my life. Boating and life around the water has always been in my blood. My Grandfather and my Dad both raced boats when they were in their early 20s, and never lost sight of their desire for being on the water. My mother was a cabin girl growing up and always made it a priority to slow life down a little at the lake, so with both of those large influences surrounding me, my draw to the water and the lifestyle around it has been a defining part of who I am as a person today.
On top of that, with both of my parents being entrepreneurs, I’ve always known that I wanted to create something. Whether that “something” be in marketing, or advertising, or even PR, I knew I wanted to work with brands or even develop one from the ground up.
Explaining to my dad, right then and there, that I wanted to start a brand that could express my lifestyle and how I grew up, led to Rudder USA. I got so excited talking about it I didn’t even hear him say “Alright, let’s do it.” the first few times.
I hope you enjoy your time here and love the items we have to offer as much as we love offering them to you.
